Why prepare
A C-section deserves preparation too.
Prenatal education classes are commonly associated with preparing expectant parents for vaginal childbirth. Understanding the process of a C-section birth helps alleviate anxiety and allows you to make informed decisions and actively participate in your birth experience.
In my maternal health care
“This includes preparation for a planned or unexpected C-section, as well as recovery support afterward.”
- Demystify C-section births
- Empower expectant parents
- Optimize healing after childbirth while caring for a newborn

All the way through
Mental health support
Disappointment, fear, anxiety: a planned or unplanned C-section can bring up many emotions. We make room for them, before and after.
C-sections and the pelvic floor
Your pelvic floor matters after a C-section too.
“While pelvic floor dysfunction is commonly associated with vaginal births, there is a lack of awareness and understanding that it can also be a consequence of C-section births.”
From my article “Preparing for a Cesarean Birth”
This is where pelvic health and maternal health meet in my practice. After a C-section, your pelvic floor and core are part of recovery: we take them into account from the start.

How does the class work?
The C-section birth class is offered privately, in person on William Street or online upon request. The session lasts 60 minutes, and your partner is welcome.
When should I consider C-section prenatal classes?
Understanding cesarean sections and preparing for recovery is beneficial for all expectant parents. Familiarity with a cesarean birth empowers you to make informed decisions, easing the associated physical and mental recovery. Being informed about C-sections allows for emotional readiness, better postpartum planning, and increased partner involvement.
I'm planning a vaginal birth. Is this useful for me?
Yes. A C-section isn't always planned, and knowing what to expect prepares you for that possibility. An unplanned C-section can bring disappointment, fear, or anxiety: being well informed helps you through them.
Does this replace conversations with my care team?
No. It's important to have proactive discussions with your primary care provider about your birth plan. The classes help you prepare for them: you arrive with your questions and your preferences.
And after the birth, if I need help?
I also support you through recovery: scar care, ergonomics of nursing or bottle feeding, fatigue management, pelvic health, and mental health. It's all on my postpartum recovery page.
